Human Uniqueness Compared to "Great Apes":
Absolute Difference
MOCA Domain:
Organ Physiology
MOCA Topic Authors:

Humans are unique among hominids in that their behavior can include sustained long-distance running. No other ape species has been observed running for such distances and duration. Many human anatomical specializations appear to contribute to this ability, including bipedality, the uniquely derived anatomy of the foot and leg, heat loss via sweating etc. The ability for sustained running may have opened up novel possibilities for hunting and inter-group competition.
