Christopher Wills- Bio
Christopher Wills Academic Positions: Assistant Professor of Biology, Wesleyan University, Conn., 1966-72. Associate Professor of Biology, UC San Diego, 1972-78. Associate Professor of Biology, UC San Diego, 1972-1978, Professor of Biology, UC San Diego, 1978 present. Academic Honors: NIH postdoctoral fellowship, 1965-66. Guggenheim Fellowship, 1977-78. Visiting scholar, U. of Oklahoma OSLEP program, 1998. Previous holders of this visiting scholarship include David Baltimore, Buckminster Fuller, Maya Angelou, Lester Thurow and others. 1999, received the AAAS Award for Public Understanding of Science and Technology. Previous winners include Carl Sagan and E.O. Wilson. Boyce Thompson Institute Distinguished Lecturer in the Life Sciences, Cornell University, Oct. 1999. Distinguished Lecturer in biodiversity, University of Minnesota, Feb. 2004. Book "Children of Prometheus" finalist for the 2000 Aventis Prize. (Research Interests: Molecular evolution, genetic polymorphisms in humans and other organisms, human mitochondrial evolution, the evolution of genetic recombination, the evolution of disease resistance, the role of pathogens in the maintenance of diversity in complex ecosystems. Teaching Experience: Introductory biology, genetics, introductory evolution, molecular evolution, medical genetics (at UCSD Medical School), biochemistry, biostatistics.
