Bio: Don Brown, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at UCSB, is a sociocultural anthropologist. His research interests are in human universals and the relationship between features of human nature and patterns in human society, culture, and history. He is the author of two books on these topics: Hierarchy, History, and Human Nature and Human Universals. His current research is on the ethnocentric complex and is directed toward discovering its features through the study of human affairs while seeking other means to provide both proximate and ultimate (evolutionary) explanations for the complex. He is a past Chair of his department.
