Linda Marchant
Bio

Linda Marchant is the founding and current Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Miami University, Oxford, OH. She is a Professor of Biological Anthropology and joined Miami’s faculty in 1989. Her research interests include behavioral primatology, laterality of function (handedness), African apes, and visual anthropology. She is the author of more than 40 book chapters and journals articles and co-edited Behavioural Diversity in Chimpanzees and Bonobos (Cambridge University Press, 2002) and Great Ape Societies (Cambridge University Press, 1996).  Her video programs on chimpanzee behavior have premiered at a Cold Spring Harbor Symposium on Human Evolution, a Smithsonian Institution Symposium on the Primate
Mind, and a Wenner-Gren Symposium on Early Human Diet. She won the Best Short Film A Chimpanzee Grooming as Social Custom, Mahale Mountains National Park, Tanzania@, Society for Visual Anthropology, American Anthropological Association (2000); and earned the Outstanding Professor Award, Associated Student Government, Miami University (2004). She has been a Visiting Research Fellow, Centre for Social Learning and Cognitive Evolution, University of St. Andrew (2001), and serves on the Advisory Board for Chimp Haven, Inc.
