Bio

I joined the Department in July 2007 as an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Human Evolutionary Studies. I am also a principal investigator of the Centre for the Evolution of Cultural Diversity at University College London, which is funded by the UK's Arts and Humanities Research Council. With regard to research, I am working on a number of topics in evolutionary anthropology. Among these are the identification of species in the hominin fossil record, the reconstruction of fossil hominin and non-human primate phylogenetic relationships, and the estimation of body mass, stature and age from skeletal material. In addition, I am using methods and theory from evolutionary biology to investigate archaeologically- and ethnographically-documented patterns of material culture variation. Currently, I am supervising four graduate students (Alan Cross, Mana Dembo, Marina Elliot, Luseadra Mckerracher) and two postdoctoral research fellows (Briggs Buchanan and Harald Yurk).
