Naruya Saitou
Bio

Naruya Saitou is currently Professor in the Division of Population Genetics, National Institute of Genetics, Mishima, Japan.  He is also Professor in the Department of Genetics, School of Life Sciences, Graduate University for Advanced Studies, Japan (joint  appointment).  He has been interested in human evolution at the genetic level, as well as development of new methods for molecular evolutionary studies. He started the ape genome project Silver in 1999. (http://sayer.lab.nig.ac.jp/~silver/).  Dr. Saitou is associate editor of  Molecular Biology and Evolution from 1996 to present; associate editor of  Journal of Molecular Evolution (1999-2000); and, editorial board member of Molecular Phylogeny and Evolution (1995-2000).  He co-organized GEMINI workshop (http://sayer.lab.nig.ac.jp/GEMINI/) on ape genomics and neuroscience in March 2000 at Tokyo, and also organized a symposium on evolutionary genomics in November 2002 at Atami.
