Steven Churchill
Bio

Steven Churchill is an Associate Professor in the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at Duke University.  He is a paleoanthropologist who works on the evolution of human adaptive strategies – especially subsistence strategies – over the course of the last 500,000 years.  Dr. Churchill’s recent work focuses on the origins of projectile weapon systems, and on the ecological and adaptive significance of variation in body size and shape in fossil members of the genus Homo.  He is an associate editor of the Journal of Anthropological Research, and a past associate editor or editorial board member of the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, the Journal of Human Evolution, Paléorient, and Bulletin et Mémoires de la Societé d’Anthropologie de Paris.  Dr. Churchill directed the Duke in South Africa Paleoanthropology Field School for eight years, and currently conducts fieldwork at several sites in southern Africa.
