Ms. Benirschke’s career began in science publishing, first at Springer (1979-1991) and then at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press (1991-2010). For the past 20 years, she managed the marketing activities at CSHL Press, combining the use of print (brochures, catalogues, space ads), review copies, and online media. She also managed the Press website. In addition to her marketing responsibilities, she represented CSHL Press at up to 10 society meetings annually, where she interacted with numerous authors and customers, including many CARTA members. In 1998, Ingrid relocated to San Diego and continued to telecommute to CSHL, thus establishing the first west coast office for the Press.
Ms. Benirschke joined CARTA as Community Relations Director in August 2011. This new position was designed to help CARTA engage more with the community. In addition to raising CARTA’s profile locally and nationally, Ingrid assisted in development and fund-raising activities, working closely with the UCSD development leadership and staff, to further the CARTA educational and research missions. In November 2019, Ms. Benirschke retired from the University and Lindsay Hunter assumed the position of Community Relations and Development Director for CARTA.
