The Power of Stories: "The Role of Myth in Anthropogeny," Fri., May. 19, 2023

May 24, 2023

Thank you to everyone (in-person or online) who contributed to the success of CARTA’s public symposium, "The Role of Myth in Anthropogeny," on Friday, May 19, 2023!

CARTA is pleased report a triumphant return to the Salk Institute for this past week's hybrid public symposium, "The Role of Myth in Anthropogeny"! A testament to the hold that stories and story-telling have upon our species, approximately 130 or more individuals were drawn to sit in our attendance at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies for CARTA's first in-person public symposium since February 2020. More than 420 additional people viewed the livestream from 27 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It was heartening to see so many agree that there is something fundamentally special and compelling about sharing the same story at the same time with other humans.

Enjoy the symposium again to immerse yourself in our continuing human story:

If you would like to enjoy the experience again, or if you missed all or part of the symposium, fear not! The talks, as well as the LIVE Audience Q&A/Expert Discussion, will be aired on UCSD-TV in a few weeks’ time and then permanently archived online on multiple online sites, including CARTA's Past Symposia Video Archives, UCSD-TV, UCTV: CARTA iTunes Playlist, and UCTV: CARTA YouTube Playlist. These recordings will contain high-quality closed captions to enhance your viewing experience. Closed captions are made possible through support from viewers like you, this time through the generosity of CARTA Patrons Ingrid Benirschke-Perkins & Gordon Perkins. We will share an update as soon as videos become available online.

Support CARTA:

If CARTA added value to your understanding of ourselves as a uniquely adapted species, you can help ensure that we are able to produce additional informative content and share it for FREE with everyone, well into the future, by contributing to the UC San Diego/Salk Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny: CARTA.

With the immense benefit of in-person interaction comes greater production expenses as well. Every level of support helps us to revive and thrive in person. To best assist CARTA to adapt as an organization to rapidly changing environments and technologies, please consider a gift to our general-use Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA) Fund (Fund No. 3264).

Full or partial underwriting is available for upcoming symposia. Email khunter@ucsd.edu or visit the CARTA Support page for more information!

We look forward to you joining us again for UPCOMING Public Symposia:
