Sierra is a PhD student in Neurosciences interested in how the human brain orchestrates its billions of neurons to construct a world model and a sense of self. Her research uses recordings from inside the human brain during diverse cognitive tasks to characterize the oscillatory networks that support cognition across varied contexts. Prior to graduate school, Sierra conducted undergraduate and post-baccalaureate research at Indiana University on the cellular pharmacology of phytochemicals in cannabis. Sierra is broadly interested in what makes the human brain unique and likes to take a multiscale perspective, from cellular physiology to whole-brain oscillatory networks that underlie cognition. Outside of work, she enjoys playing music, foraging for plants and mushrooms, hiking, practicing taichi, and surfing.
