Abstract:

Academic as well as science libraries will want this collection of articles on chimpanzee research and conservation. Topics include social behavior and ecology in the wild; intelligence and language-acquisition in captivity; and comparisons between the "common" chimpanzee and the bonobo, or "pygmy" chimpanzee. The articles provide useful surveys of research and the literature. Most of the major experts in the field contributed to the collection, including the Japanese scientists at the three-year-old research site at Mahale, Tanzania.
