Humans suffer many autoimmune disorders such as systemic lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and bronchial asthma that have so far not been reported in great apes. However, the numbers of great apes that have been following medically may not be sufficient to be certain of this difference. Serum anti-nuclear antibodies characteristic of lupus have not so far been reported in great apes (?).
