CARTA Member Dr. Keolu Fox (UC San Diego Anthropology), just published a blistering perspective paper in The New England Journal of Medicine, entitled, "The Illusion of Inclusion - The 'All of Us' Research Program and Indigenous Peoples' DNA." In it, Dr. Fox argues as new technologies converge in the field of human-driven therapeutics, opportunities for developing blockbuster drugs from studies of human genetic variation emerge. It will take equitable innovation in this area to ensure that the benefits truly reach “all of us.”
But that's not all:
He's also co-author of the Current Opinion in Genetics & Development article, "Generations of genomes: advances in paleogenomics technology and engagement for Indigenous people of the Americas," which is out online ahead of print (Tsosie et al. Curr. Opin Genet Dev. 2020 Jul 25;62:91-96. doi: 10.1016/j.gde.2020.06.010).
