Definition:
Versions of a chemical elements that differ slightly in mass due to different numbers of neutrons in atoms. They differ from radioactive isotopes in that they don’t decay into other elements or give off radiation; they simply stay as they are indefinitely. These isotopes are found in biological material, including fossils, and can be used to study paleo-diet and ecology.
