We’re pleased to once again have had an excellent online turnout, this time with ~660 live stream viewers watching from 40 countries and territories: Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Northern Mariana Islands, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
For some perspective, pre-pandemic, in-person CARTA event live streams typically reached ~10 countries, with the highest being 26 countries tuning in for "Ancient DNA and Human Evolution" in 2016. With viewers from 40 countries on Saturday, March 5, "Human Origins and Humanity's Future: Past, Present and Future of the Anthropocene" had the highest representation (or roughly 20% of global nations/territories) since CARTA started live streaming!
If you would like to enjoy the presentations and Q&A again, or if you missed all or part of the symposium, the talks and Q&A will be aired on UCSD-TV in a few weeks’ time and then permanently archived online at multiple websites, including CARTA, UCSD-TV, iTunes, and YouTube. These recordings will contain high-quality closed captions to enhance your viewing experience. In keeping with an emerging CARTA priority, we will once again use accumulated knowledge from the past of our species to look ahead for innovative solutions to anthropogenic challenges to both our continued existence and that of our planet.
