I am interested in the evolutionary origins and functions of a number of different specific emotions (particularly, jealousy, embarrassment, shame guilt, envy, and humor) as well as the role of such emotions in decision-making, health, and well-being. Some of my work has focused on controversial topics such as the specificity of evolved psychological mechanisms (e.g., Do dogs have jealousy? Are men and women hard-wired to be jealous over different things?) and critical examination of whether women's mate preferences have evolved to change across the the menstrual cycle.
